Jill Slater Owens

Mrs. Jill Lynn Slater Owens passed away Thursday morning, July 23, 2015 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Jill was born in Forsyth County on February 15, 1972 to William ""Bill"" and Betty Groce Slater. Jill had a passion for teaching. She worked with many public schools teaching children, but also teaching fellow coworkers about technology and smart board use. More than anything Jill loved spending time with her family, especially her two daughters. Jill was a member at Enon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother Betty Groce Slater. Jill is survived by her husband Darren Owens; two daughters Caroline and Sarah Owens; father William ""Bill"" Slater; sister Jan Bullard (Pat); two nephews Ryan and Matthew Bullard; brother in law Mandel Owens (Jan); two nephews Benjamin and Samuel Owens; parents in law Harold and Ann Owens; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Enon Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Elmore and Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Saturday, July 25, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. Memorials in memory of Jill can be made to Enon Baptist Church 6321 Old Highway 421, East Bend, NC 27018. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Paschold, Dr. Grote, the nurses and nurses' navigators on the 9th floor at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Oncology Specialists. The family would also like to thank the Enon Baptist Church family, fellow teachers, friends, and Caroline and Sarah's teammates for all their love, care, and support.
