Mr. Lester E. (Jerry) Collier, Jr., 79, and Mrs. Jewell Williams Collier, 79, husband and wife of 55 years, both passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, Jerry at Forsyth Medical Hospital and Jewell at The Oaks at Forsyth.  Jerry was born June 27, 1934 in Richmond, VA to the late Lester Collier, Sr. and Alta West Collier.  He retired as a Quality Assurance Engineer at RJR Tobacco.  Jerry enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing in his free time and after retirement became interested in numerous hobbies.  In addition to his parents, Jerry is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Collier English.  Jewell was born October 19, 1934 in Forsyth Co., to the late James Williams and Nina Myers Williams.  An English teacher, she taught at Reynolds High School and the North Carolina Schools of the Arts.  Jewell was active in the American Association of University Women and also served as a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were young.  She is predeceased by her parents, as well as her brother, James Sidney Williams, Jr.  Jerry graduated from Savannah High School in Savannah, Georgia and attended Mars Hill College.  Jewell graduated from Mineral Springs High School.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master's of Arts in Liberal Studies Degree at Wake Forest University.  Jerry and Jewell were long-time members of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Winston-Salem, where Jerry served as a Deacon and Jewell served as an Elder.  They also attended Messiah Moravian Church for several years.  Jerry and Jewell are survived by daughters, Stacey Almond and husband Chris of Elberton, GA and Cyd Cowgill and husband Ben of Portsmouth, VA; and grandchildren, Caroline Almond and Max Almond.  A celebration of Jerry and Jewell’s lives will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11 am at First Christian Church of Winston-Salem with Reverend Bob Parvin officiating.  Inurnment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem, 1700 Ebert Street, Winston-Salem, NC  27103.  Online condolences may be made to Jerry and Jewell’s memorial page at www.hayworth-miller.com.
