KERNERSVILLE-Jewel Meadows Vance, 85, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at her home. She was born May 21, 1924 in Stokes Co. to the late Isaac Theodore and Mary Willis Meadows. Jewel was a member of Kernersville Moravian Church; as long as her health permitted she was active in the choir, band, and the women's fellowship. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Theo Stephens and Bonnie Robbins. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, John Francis Vance, Sr. of the home; five children, John Vance, Jr. (Kathy) of Waldo, FL, Don Vance (Carol), Janet Smith (Tom) all of Kernersville, Penny Cheney (Michael) of Oak Ridge, Beth Frack (Kevin) of Winston Salem; six sisters, Elizabeth Brendle of Kernersville, Belle Morphis of Greensboro, Linda Slate of Boone, Jeanette Bull (R.C.) of Lexington, Yvonne Steptoe (Jimmy) of Thompson, GA, Connie Atkins (Phil) of Fayetteville; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Kernersville Moravian Church with the Rev. Don Winters, and the Rev. Kevin Frack officiating. Mrs. Vance will lay in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends following the service in the Activity building. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kernersville Moravian Church Choir or Band Fund, 504 S. Main St., Kernersville, NC 27284. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of Mrs. Vance's caregivers. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Vance family.
