Mrs. Jewel ""Judy"" Poole Ashcroft, 96, died on March 28, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center. Judy was born in Siler City, NC, on September 24, 1920, to Arlie Brantley Campbell and Annie Abbie Stone. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938, and High Point College in 1942. She taught school in Winston-Salem public schools for 34 years, retiring in 1976. She married Harold ""Harry"" P. Ashcroft in 1970. She loved basketball and football and was an avid fan of the Tar Heels, Fighting Irish, and Redskins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and sister, Marguerite Campbell Staley. Surviving are her niece, Judy R. Staley; step-son, James M. Ashcroft (Susan); granddaughter, Julia Ross Ashcroft and her son, Eli Keiran Gilchrist; grandson, Jason Walker Ashcroft (Trina) and their son, Hayes Walker Ashcroft; friends, Beverly Walker Ashcroft, Pat Kane-Smith (Dick), Ruby Webster, Mable Seachrist, Maryann Gastor, Patty Meade, and many former colleagues and students in the Forsyth County Public School System. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Southfork Assisted Living and the team at Forsyth Medical Center for their care of Mrs. Ashcroft. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 8 at 11 am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forsyth County Teacher Grants, c/o The Winston-Salem Foundation, 751 W. Fourth Street, Suite 200, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
