Mrs. Jessie Rae Williard Stokes, age 79, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday morning, March 15, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born September 19, 1929 in Wallburg to the late Luther M. Williard and Maude Weavil Williard. She was a good and faithful member of Waughtown Baptist Church as long as her health permitted and also a member of the church's W.M.U. program. Jessie was retired from H. L. Greens Department Store, F. W. Woolworths and the Dollar General store on Highway 109. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Gray Stokes in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Maxine W. Halfman, Darline W. Tierney and her brothers Rex C. Williard and Quentin A. Williard. Survivors include her son Tim Gray Stokes of Winston-Salem; a twin sister, Jewel W. Drane of Clemmons; two sisters, Eunice W. Rice (Ralph) of Santee Cooper, SC and Margaret W. Holt of Wallburg; sisters in law, Evelyn B. Williard, Edna Addertion, Shirley Riggs (Leroy), Carol Hamby, and Betty Lou Stokes; brothers-in-law, Gene E. Tierney, Roger Stokes (Effie), Richard Stokes (Betty) and numerous nieces, nephews, and many many friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Waughtown Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hamby officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens beside her husband Jimmy. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and other times at the home of her twin sister, Jewel Deane in Clemmons. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made in Jessie's name to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem 27103. The family wishes to thank the staff at Forsyth Medical Center for their wonderful care given to Jessie and a very special thanks to the staff at hospice for their loving care given to Jessie during her last days.
