Jessie Gray Marion Mitchell

Mrs. Jessie Gray Marion Mitchell, 88, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016. She was born in Surry County on May 14, 1927 to the late Mary Lou Forest Marion and Paul Alexander Marion. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the choir. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker, farmed, and directed the Shoals Elementary Before and After School Day Care. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin T. ""Bill"" Mitchell. She is survived by two sons, Mike Mitchell (Wanda) and Jeff Mitchell (Lisa) both of Shoals; five grandchildren: Candice Jicha (Karl), Carmen Docter (Brad), Catherine Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, and Anna Mitchell; four great-grandchildren: Camille Jicha, Cora Jicha, Vera Docter, and Nolan Mitchell; three sisters: Ruth Miller, Ona Atkins, and Wilma Tucker (Calvin); several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, J.T. Martin and Bobby Marion. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at Fairview United Methodist Church with Rev. William W. ""Bill"" Roberts and Rev. Roy ""Dick"" Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
