Jessie Gray

Mrs. Jessie White Gray, 82, passed away Tuesday February 2, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center.  She was born October 13, 1938 in Yadkin County, the daughter of William Morgan White, Sr. and Lottie Mae Weatherman White.  She was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Until she became ill, she taught the Nursery Sunday School class, volunteered as a referee with the Upward Basketball program, worked with the kitchen committee, and helped with AWANA Clubs.  She spent most of her career with Western Electric and ended it with GMAC.  She worked part-time at Dillard’s before and after she retired.  Jessie was quite the athlete and loved all kinds of sports. She played basketball in high school and college and played several sports in recreational leagues after college. She was an avid UNC Tar Heel fan. Her favorite way to watch a basketball game was to turn down the television and listen to Woody Durham call the game on the radio.  Her favorite past times were baking and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was as spunky as she was sweet and loved by many.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Gordon Gray in 1988; her sisters, Marie Bullin, Grace Sizemore, Hilda Brown, and Peggy White and brothers, James White, and William Morgan “W.M.” White, Jr.  Survivors include her children, Bobby Gray and wife, Deborah of Boonville, Debbie Allred and husband, Jody of Kernersville and Julie Singleton and husband, Tom of Lexington; five grandchildren, Connor Singleton, Rachel Singleton, Jesse Allred, Emily Allred and Jody Allred, Jr. and wife, Charity; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Sizemore, and Wanda White; a brother, Donald White and wife, Brenda and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 8, 2021 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kent Hogan officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.  Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com
