Jerry Dale Whitman

Jerry Dale Whitman, 69, of Winston-Salem went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1941 in Forsyth County to Robah James and Ina Shamel Whitman. Mr. Whitman was a loving husband, Dad and Paw Paw. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church for 55 years, and was retired from GATX in 1996. He had been a volunteer fireman for Griffith Fire Department while his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Dorsett Whitman; a son, Jeffrey Whitman and wife Jennifer; two grandsons, Jacob and Zachary whom he just adored; a sister, Ann Owens and husband Harold of Tobaccoville; a brother, James Eugene ""Jimmy"" Whitman and wife Laura of Pfafftown; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 19 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4691 Vienna-Dozier Rd., Pfafftown, NC 27040.
