Mr. Jerry Wayne Roels, Sr., 56, of Rural Hall, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014. He passed away at home after an extended illness. He was born January 13, 1958 in Beckley, West Virginia. Jerry attended Parkland High School and later graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College. Mr. Roels was known by his siblings as ""B Red"" and was an avid Duke fan who enjoyed ACC basketball. Jerry was a devoted father and doting grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Roels, Sr. and his two shelties, Prissy and Cuddles. Surviving are his mother, Shirley Foreman Roels; two sons, Jerry W. Roels, Jr. (Christy) of Advance and Jason Roels, Sr. (Heather) of East Bend; a companion of 15 years, John Phillips of Rural Hall; six grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah, Alana, Jason Roels Jr., Ethan and Levi; one sister, Brenda Weavil (Darrell) of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Raymond Roels, Jr. (Robin) of Clemmons and Terry Roels (Holly) of Clemmons and numerous nieces, nephews and his devoted dog Abbey. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. David King officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the many health care people who helped Jerry during his illness. These include Dr. John Thomas at Salem Family Practice, Dr. Jason Thomason at Salem Chest Specialists and especially Beth Smith at Hospice.
