Jerry Dale ""Poppy"" Maynard, 67, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2017. His wish was to fall asleep and not wake up, and God granted him that wish. Per his request, there will be no services. He was born on April 30, 1949 in Mingo County, WV to Ira and Irma Simpkins Maynard. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Jo VanAtta. Mr. Maynard is survived by his wife, Phyllis Roberts Maynard of the home; his daughter, Jodi Daye and her two children, Jordan and Gracie; his step-daughter, Christy Ogle (James) and their daughter, Oliva (Poppy's Boo Boo); his brother, David Maynard (Teresa) and their sons, John and Sam; His sister, Alice Hester (Clarence) and her daughter, Lisa McHone; Brother-in-law Bill VanAtta and daughter, Jill. He is also survived by a very special friend, Ronnie ""Goob"" Watts. He moved to North Carolina in 1969. He retired from Kernersville Dodge and previously worked at Froleigh Cadillac and Regal Oldsmobile as a certified auto technician. He also owned Maynard Auto Sales. Mr. Maynard enjoyed spending time at his garage with his friends, working on cars, playing cards, shooting ""pool ball"" and seeing who could tell the biggest lies. He also enjoyed going to the beach, fishing from the pier, and playing in the ocean with his granddaughter and the joy of his life, Livy. He was always the life of the party, always smiling and telling jokes. Poppy's spirit will forever be sitting on the back porch grilling steaks, playing cards and enjoying his life with Phyllis. ""I love you, Baby! See you in Heaven."" The family would like thank Trudy, (ICU nurse and now friend), for making Poppy's last days as comfortable as possible.
