Jerry Mack King

Jerry Mack King, 81, of Winston-Salem, went home to the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2011, to join his wife, Betty Coggins King; his father, John William King; and his mother, Genevra Wilkerson King. He was born in Harnett County, NC, and lived most of his life in Winston-Salem. He is survived by his brother, Stacy King and wife Mary of Swansboro, NC; son, Homer King and Margaret Toms; two grandchildren, Forrest and Fletcher King of Bryson City, NC; nephews, David King and wife Jane of Raleigh, NC, Barry King and wife Morella of Hampstead, NC; niece, Jane King and husband Tim Simpson; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews in North Carolina and Alabama. Mr. King was a gentle, kind, and loving man with a deep Christian faith who cherished his family. He was a Korean War veteran who received the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his service. He attended Atlantic Christian College and DeVry Technical Institute, where he studied electronics. He worked for AT&T in Winston-Salem as an electronic technician for most of his career. He loved to fish, play basketball and tennis, and spend time in the mountains of Western North Carolina with his son and grandchildren. He led by example with integrity and humility. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Bob McCaskill of Pinedale Christian Church officiating.
