Mr. Jerry Samuel Harding, 72, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He was born the youngest of seven on September 10, 1936 to Joseph Robert Harding and Lila Sandefur Harding in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Harding grew up in north Winston and graduated from Hanes High School in 1955. He received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his graduate degree from Appalachian State University. Mr. Harding was a Rehabilitation Counselor and a Facilities Specialist for the NC Department of Human Resources. He served community rehabilitation facilities in the central part of the state. In 1994 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the NC Association for Rehabilitation Facilities for his efforts on behalf of Persons with Disabilities. He retired in 1995. He was a Charter member of the Clemmons Lions Club. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors including golfing and gardening. He was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church serving as an Usher, a Diener, a past member of the Board of Elders and the Men's Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, Edna Smith Harding; a daughter, Amanda Ruth Harding of the home; a son, Andrew Derrick Harding and wife Lari of Clemmons; grandchildren, Isaac and Leah also of Clemmons and a sister, Ruth Lillie of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, September 4, 2009 at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Q. Ray Burke officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, 108 E. Kinderton Way, Advance, NC.
