Mr. Jerry Dean ""JD"" Hampton passed away Thursday August 22, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Jerry was born in Iredell County December 28, 1944 to Jerry Dean and Della Triplett Hampton. He attended Appalachian High School and Appalachian State University. Jerry taught at Central Davidson High School and was the head coach of the Spartan Wrestling Team. He served in the United States Army as an Arabic Linquist, and also a US Park Ranger on the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Claude Hampton, and Bill Hampton; and two sisters Bonnie Jean Restivo , and Susie Flick. He is survived by his son, Marty Hampton (Shannon) and grandsons Carter Hampton and Lucas Hampton all of Elkin, NC; a daughter Ellen Hampton-Williams (Eric) of Winston-Salem, NC; also a son Trevor Hampton of Charlotte NC; Stepdaughters Amy Hawks , and Amanda Metzger both of Little Rock, AR; and a brother Jerry Lee Smith of Sugar Grove, NC. A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday August 28, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Rex Cranfill officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Davidson County Education Foundation in care of the Jerry Hampton Scholarship Fund, PO Box 444 Lexington, NC 27293.
