Jerry Wood

Jerry Glenn Wood, 81, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. Jerry was born on May 20, 1940, the son of William Howard Wood and Roxie Chilton Wood. A native of Surry County, Jerry’s family moved to Winston-Salem where he grew up. When Jerry was a young boy growing up, he was especially close to his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Molly Chilton.  Jerry attended Gray High School and received his diploma from Forsyth Technical Community College. He was of the Methodist faith.  Jerry retired from the ABC Board after 30 years of employment.  He was a member of the Elk’s Club (lodge #0449) in Winston-Salem and also a member of the Moose Lodge. Jerry enjoyed watching and feeding the birds in his yard and throughout his life enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 62 years, Peggy Miller Wood; sons, Jeff Wood (Karen) and their children, Betsy (Charlie), Jennifer (Justin), Michael, Brian, Rebecca (Adam) and Graham, and Greg Wood (Jennifer) and their children, Davis and Henry; three great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Liam and Elam; brother, Rev. Ron Wood (Kaye); and a host of loving friends and family. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Pilot View United Methodist Church in Pinnacle, with Rev. Ron Wood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
