Mr. Jerry Hunter Canady, 84, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Rockingham Co. on January 10, 1938, the son of the late Lester Benton Canady and Ruby Glenn Strader Canady. Jerry was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, from where he retired at the rank of Master Sergeant, with 21 years of service. Jerry then became director of Forsyth County Animal Control, from where he retired in 1996. He also served on the Rural Hall Town Council for 15 years. Some of his favorite hobbies were softball, golf, fishing and especially watching his grandson’s sporting events. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Galliher Canady; two daughters, Cindy Canady Fogle and Jean Marie Canady; three grandchildren, Justin Fogle (Carah), Caleb Fogle and Hunter Canady; and a sister, Katherine Stephens. A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville with Rev. Eddie Honeycutt officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place in Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at the church.
