Jerry “Frank” Ballard

Mr. Jerry ""Frank"" Ballard, 61, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Ballard was born on January 10, 1950 in Forsyth County, NC to the late Roscoe LeGrand Ballard and Cora Elizabeth Sellers Ballard. Jerry was of the Baptist Faith and he retired from the City of Winston-Salem with 33 years of service as an Engineering Technician with the Stormwater Division. Preceding Mr. Ballard in death were his parents. Surviving Mr. Ballard are his wife, Diane Tilley Ballard of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Rebecca Ballard Cunningham of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Cody, Jessica, Thomas, Andrew, and Madison; a devoted companion, Petey LaGrand; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Stanley (Debbie); a mother-in-law, Betty L. Tilley and a nephew, Raoul Blue Whitt (Beverly). A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Scott Vernon officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Those attending the visitation and/or graveside service, at the family's request, please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne or other scents because of some family member's allergies. Casual dress and blue jeans are allowed at Frank's request. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Franklin Chen and staff for the compassionate care they showed to Jerry. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the nurses on the 2nd floor ICU Department and his wife and Petey would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff of the 1st Floor ICU Department for the care, support and special accommodations they made in order for Jerry to feel comfortable in his final days. Diane would also like to express her love and thanks to her mother, Betty and her sister, Debbie and her husband Jimmy, for the loving care and support they showed towards her and Frank throughout his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please purchase the book ""Heaven Is For Real."" Read it and pass it onto others so everyone will know the impact it made on Frank and Diane's lives.
