Mr. Jerome ""Jerry"" M. August, 72, of Clemmons, an entrepreneur, inventor and former photo processing business owner, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after an extended illness. He was born July 29, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late, Harry and Caroline Smagac August. He moved to Winston-Salem in the late 1990s after a successful business career in the Chicago area. He is survived by his wife, Millie of the home; two daughters, Amber Gilio ( Daniel) of Batavia, IL and Heather Huffman (Mike Casey) of Oswego, IL; a son, Todd August (Annie) of Elgin, IL; two step-children, Brad Pryce (Mary Katherine) of Clemmons and Greg Pryce of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren, Blythe, Glynis, Mitchell, Ashton, Mia, Alexandra, Mason, Taryn, Adam and Aaron; a brother, David August(Mary Anne) of Chicago Ridge, IL; and a sister, Judith Gallagher (Richard deceased) of Shorewood, IL. At a young age Jerry developed an interest in photography and built a darkroom in his family home. During the Cold War he served in the US Navy as an aerial photographer. He processed pictures at the National Reconnaissance Lab in Maryland of Russian missile sites during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis that were used by the White House and in United Nations presentations. After his military service he worked in photo finishing in the Chicago area and then started his own photo finishing business, August Colorchrome. He became an inventor in his field, holding two patents for the development of a camera and display device to produce PSC Holograms. Jerry loved his family, especially his many grandchildren. He loved life, being with friends and loved ones, the Chicago Bears, Wake Forest football and traveling. He was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Wake Forest University's Deacon Club and the Winston-Salem Westwood Club. His family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Bingham officiating.
