Winston-Salem- ""I'm wonderful!"" With those words, Jeanne Jefferson Carter entered the more immediate presence of her Savior on May 24, 2011. She was born on June 13, 1933 to Raleigh and Ruth Jefferson in Forsyth County. She graduated from Old Town High School and went to work at Western Electric. In August of 1955, she married C. Douglas Carter and together they went on to accomplish incredible things, especially for children, the arts and community projects. Later, she went to work for the WS/FC Schools, retiring in 1998. She was a former member of the Sweet Adelines, the WS/FC Faculty Chorus, and the NC Assoc. of Educational Office Personnel. She was a dedicated, enthusiastic member of Trinity Moravian Church where she served on many committees as well as in the Women's Fellowship, Senior Friends, Circle #4, the Fellowship Class and as a former choir member. She demonstrated her love of God through her positive outlook, hilarious sense of humor, empathy and servant spirit, always caring for others before thinking of herself. She was a woman of amazing hospitality and a legendary cook: her home knew no strangers, welcomed all and no one ever left hungry! She was famous for her light rolls, her giving spirit, her unquenchable support of all things UNC, and her passion for reading, cats, gardening and the beach. As an avid bridge player, she belonged to several card groups, playing up until her last illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by daughters, Joyce Carter and Sara (Greg) Gentle; grandchildren, Courtney (John) Jones, Sara (Joshua) Wood, Wesley Gentle and Carter Gentle; great grandchildren, Katelyn, Claire, and Logan; her ""co-mother-in-law"", Shirley Gentle; brother, Athol (Nan) Jefferson; sisters-in-law, Annie Hawkins and Addie Carter; brother-in-law, Conrad (Barbara) Carter, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. Visitation will be from 7pm - 9pm, Friday, May 27, 2011 at Trinity Moravian Church, 220 E. Sprague St. A Celebration of Jeanne's Life will be held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 2:00pm at Trinity Moravian Church with the Rev. John Jackman officiating. Inurnment will follow at God's Acre.
