Mrs. Jean West Swider, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Homestead Hills. She was born in Texas on November 24, 1932, to the late Homer West and Iva Rouk West. Jean graduated from the University of Alabama, and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She worked with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system, at Dalton Junior High, as a science teacher. Jean was a long time member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed going to the beach, visiting the mountains, and knitting. Jean was a former member of the Snappy Tappers tap dancing group. She was preceded in death by her husband Antony Swider. Jean is survived by a daughter, Angie Gay and husband David of Charlotte, NC; two sons Tim Swider and wife, Rebecca and Matthew Swider and wife, Della; six grandchildren, Ryan Gay, Justin Gay, Brittany Swider, Katherine Swider, Kelsie Swider, and Jacob Swider; great-granddaughter, Khloe Gay; a brother, Ray West; and her long-time best friend, Martha Watson. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 2, 2017 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church with Father Steven C. Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
