Jean Hoffman Smith

Jean Hoffman Smith, age 90, died August 15, 2015 at the K. B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem. Born April 11, 1925, to Mary (Hanes) and Claude M. Hoffman of Winston-Salem. Jean attended Winston-Salem schools including R. J. Reynolds High School. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke, VA. As an adult, Jean lived in Winston-Salem, NC and Norfolk, VA. An avid reader and history buff who was passionate about her Moravian heritage, Jean loved her church and enjoyed her twelve years as an interpreter at Old Salem. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald P. Hoffman. Her son, Robert Steven Smith passed away on August 19, 2015 at K. B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Jean is survived by her daughter Betsy Smith Baldwin; her grandchildren, Adam M. Baldwin (Atlanta, GA) and Mary Alice Baldwin (Los Angeles, CA); her sisters, Laura Jo Brown (Winston-Salem) and Daphne R. Hoffman (Washington, DC); her brother, Robert Hanes Hoffman (Wife, Patti) (Winston-Salem); her nieces and nephews, Beverly Brown (husband, Steve Seigel), David Brown, Meredith Hoffman Finnen, R. Hanes Hoffman, and Lisle Hoffman Pearman (husband, Stephen). A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 21, 2015 at Salem Moravian Graveyard with the Rt. Rev. Lane A. Sapp officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to thank the Rt. Rev. Lane A. Sapp and Rev. Dallas Prestwood for their friendship and guidance as well as the caring staff at Southfork Assisted Living Center and the compassionate staff of K. B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
