Jean C. Morrissette concluded her physical journey on Thursday, March 27, 2025, finally reuniting with her beloved parents in heaven.

Jean was born at the Sister’s Hospital in Waterville, Maine on July 5, 1946, the oldest child of William S. and Anita Gagnon Morrissette.

She graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Fairfield, Maine and then went on to graduate from Lawrence High School in Fairfield. During the high school years, she worked at the Catholic Rectory in Fairfield and volunteered as a candy striper at Sister’s Hospital. Jean was a member of The Legion of Mary and taught CCD. After graduation she went on to nursing school at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Lewiston, Maine. Upon graduation she was employed at Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital in Waterville, Maine which became Mid Maine Medical Center and later MaineGeneral Medical Center as a Registered Nurse. She worked in several departments within the hospital with Medical Oncology being her specialty. While in Oncology she took the National Exam to become a Certified Oncology Nurse.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by both her aunts and uncles; cousins, Connie Dumond, Anita Campbell, Claire Phair, Harold Morrissette and Robert Morrissette; special cousin, Leon Joler; good friend and mentor, Joseph Hiebel, M.D.; and several friends that meant the world to her in Bermuda.

She moved from Maine to North Carolina in 2023 to be with her close and loving family and resided at Heritage Woods independent care facility in Winston-Salem.

Jean is survived by her loving brother, William F. Morrissette and special care giver/wife, Dolores of NC; special niece who meant the world to her, Melissa J. Morrissette-Hurst and her husband, Stephen of NC; cousin, Ruth Albenze of Brunswick, Georgia; special cousin, Jeannie Joler and family; James Joler (Linda) and family from Maine; best friend from childhood, Linda Stacey of MA; very dear friend, Mary Holmes of Nc; and close friends, Gretchen and Audrey Dean of Bermuda.

She was a member of The Kiwanis Club of Greater Waterville, serving two terms as Club President and then was on the board of directors for several years. Jean was a devout Catholic all her life belonging to Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish later becoming Corpus Christi Parish.

She retired in 2008 after working 40 years.

Jean greatly enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, traveling, and watching Hallmark movies. Her family was her most prized possession and with a heart full of love she made sure to never miss a birthday. She also kept the family up to date on the details of cousins, aunts and uncles.

She would like to thank Dr. David Preston for his friendship and exceptional care, Dr. Donald Magioncalda and Marie for their friendship over the years. She was blessed to have them in her life. Thanks go to Dr. Andrew Hertler for his mentorship and friendship over the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Catholic Church at 116 Silver Street, Waterville, Maine. Arrangements will be forthcoming and interment to follow at Saint Francis Cemetery.
