Jean Ogburn Neal, 91, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Hospice House in High Point. Jean was a woman of love and compassion, spreading joy and kindness wherever she went. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister.
She was born July 6, 1932, in Forsyth County to the late James and Alice Ogburn. She graduated from Lees McRae College and UNC Greensboro with a master’s degree. She worked for High Point Regional Hospital and Guilford County Mental Health, where she retired from.
Jean was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Methodist Church, where she was a friend to everyone. She volunteered in the office and actively participated in senior groups. She worked in the nursery and taught Sunday school to 2–3-year-olds for 30 plus years. She was a founding member of Loving Threads and the Chrismon Group. She was also a long-time member of the Mary Martha Circle, and she loved volunteering at vacation bible school.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse Carl Fetzer Neal and her sister Alice Ann Ogburn.
She is survived by her loving son, Lawrence William Neal, and daughter-in-law Sherri Taylor Neal; her cherished grand-daughter Taylor Nicole Groves (Alden); her 2 great-grandchildren, Theo and Isaiah Groves; her sister Karol Ogburn Laws; her brother James William Ogburn Jr. Jean is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Oak Ridge Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Carr officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
