Jean Elizabeth Speas Goodwin, 64, passed away on Sat., May 19, 2012 in Winston-Salem. Born in Durham, NC on September 5, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. William Paul Speas, Jr., and the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. William Paul Speas, Sr., of Winston-Salem. Ms. Goodwin graduated from R J Reynolds High School and Methodist University and worked in the Accounting Department of Novant Health at Forsyth Medical Center for over 30 years. She was interested in a variety of activities, such as photography, videotaping weddings and soccer games, computers, music, vintage cars, and the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves. She worked for the welfare of children and animals and was an amateur expert of astronomy. She is survived by her sister Anne Speas Bradford and brother-in-law Steve Bradford of Lewisville; her beloved nephews David Christopher Bradford and John Philman Bradford, wife Jill Fulton Bradford, and grandnephew Owen Michael Bradford of Raleigh; aunts and uncle Ruth and Thomas Poindexter Speas of Winston-Salem and Manette Hollingsworth Speas of Arizona; and ten first cousins. A celebration of Jean's life will be held at the First Baptist Church on 5th Street, on Sun., June 3 at 3pm. Immediately after the service there will be a reception at the church. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church on 5th, Forsyth Co. Alzheimer's Association; or the Forsyth County Humane Society.
