Mr. J. D. Samples, age 85 of King passed away Friday morning September 4, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston- Salem. Mr. Samples was born September 24, 1923 in Newport City, TN to the late John Robert and Daisy Samples. J. D. retired from Piedmont Airlines after 25 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II in the South Pacific with the 374th Service Squadron and a member of the Masons for 60 years. In addition to his parents J.D. was preceded in death by two children daughter Susan Samples and son Edward Ray Samples, one brother Bud Samples. Surviving are his wife of 27 years of marriage Earline Samples of the home. Step-daughters: Deborah (Terry) Comfort and Donna Larivee. One step-grandson: Cameron Johnson. Three step-great grandchildren: Macayla, Lila, and Kendalle. One sister: Bernice Holler and one brother Jim (Carolyn) Samples. Several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday, September 7, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall by Rev. Scott Vernon and Speaker Tommy Kennedy. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Sunday evening, September 6th from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. Military burial honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 290 of King.
