Mr. J.C. Thomas Hawkins, 91, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born on October 20, 1930, in Forsyth Co. the son of the late S.R. Hawkins, Sr. and Carrie Miller Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a member of Providence Moravian Church and a former member of Temple Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He was a truck driver for most of his career, driving for Sealtest Dairy and Hennis Freight Lines and finishing his career with Chatham Manufacturing as a warehouse manager. He proudly served our country in the United States Army in the 1st Infantry, Division 16 Tank Company, during the Korean War. Mr. Hawkins enjoyed fishing at the coast, working in his garden and loved spending time with his family. He never met a stranger and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life of 46 years, Lillie Tuttle Hawkins; a grandson, Christopher Rhoades; four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Hawkins is survived by a daughter, Joan McClamrock of Kernersville; two sons, Tommy Hawkins (Susan) of Pfafftown and Glenn Hawkins (Angie) of Belews Creek; five grandchildren, Shanna Lee (John), Amber Hawkins, Kathryn Gale (Brandon), Zachary Hawkins (Emily) and Adam Hawkins; and seven great-grandchildren, Claire Lee, Henry Rhoades, Ethan Lee, Lillie Gale, Molly Anne Lee, Charleigh Jean Hawkins and Avery Gale. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Judith Justice officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staffs of Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville and Kerner Ridge of Kernersville for the love and care shown in Mr. Hawkins’ time of need.
