Janie Navara Long Daniels passed away peacefully at her home on July 18, 2024, at the age of 86. A retired accountant, devoted wife and mother, and selfless grandmother, she left many memories for those who were lucky enough to know her. She is a lasting example of selflessness, kindness and empathy for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janie was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Kermit Parnell and Gladys Griffin Long on March 15, 1938. Janie met the love of her life, Phil, when she was only 14 and they enjoyed 66 married years. Together, they built not only a home for their family, but a home where all were welcomed. Entertainers at heart ensured a good time was had by all. Janie was an active member of Mizpah Moravian Church for much of her life. She retired as the Controller for Fairchild Industrial Products, where she earned many awards most notably her degree from Rutledge College, graduating summa cum laude. Of all her accomplishments, she is most remembered as ‘Nannie’. For almost 40 years she could be found holding, loving and listening to her grandchildren. She takes with her many of our secrets that we were always quick to share with her. Janie is survived by her loving husband, Phil; Sisters, Mary Lee Smith and Carole Long; Children, Jacque and Phillip; her four grandchildren Daniel Gattis, Laura Holby, Jessica Daniels and Alivia Daniels; her four great grandchildren, Hayes and Beau Holby, Duke and Beckham Gattis. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and two brothers. The family would like to give special thanks to Lynn Angell and Jo Moore, for their unwavering support over the last year and a half. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. A private family funeral service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery in Winston-Salem, NC. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home of Rural Hall has been entrusted by the Daniels family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated if made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or online at trellissupport.org.
