Janie Joyce

Mrs. Janie Louise Overby Joyce, 82, passed away on January 16, 2023, at her home in Mount Airy. She was born February 9, 1940, in Stokes County to the late Edgar and Ruth Overby. Janie retired from Northern Regional Hospital where she worked as a nurse for 33 years. She was an active member of Asbury Evangelical Presbyterian Church and served as Sunday School superintendent and an elder for many years. Janie served her community in many ways in their time of need and loved the Lord most of all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Pete Joyce and a brother, Jack Overby. She is survived by a son, Sammy Joyce (Cindy), two grandchildren; Ashley Kilby (Kevin), Haley Everett (Dylan), a great-granddaughter, Maggie Kilby, five brothers; Tom Overby (Mildred), Robert Overby (Sue), John Eddie Overby (Barbara), Grant Overby (Karoline), Clay Overby (Sandra), one sister, Linda Corns, several nieces, and nephews, in addition, one special friend and caregiver, Alice Burgess. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday January 20, 2023, at Asbury Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Pastor Terry Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM-1:45 PM at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the church.
