Mrs. Janie Stokes Alexander, 66, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on January 3, 1949 to Cranford Odell Stokes and Minnie Cheek Stokes in Surry County. Janie graduated Jonesville High School and retired from R.J. Reynolds with 30 years of service. She was an avid Carolina Tarheels basketball and Bill Elliott fan. More than anything, she was a loving wife and devoted mother; and her grandkids were her whole world. Janie was preceded in death by her father, Cranford Odell Stokes. Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Joe Alexander of the home; daughter, Vickie Alexander Hill of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Austin, Tanner, and Morgan Hill of Winston-Salem; mother, Minnie Cheek Stokes of Graham; siblings, Don Stokes of Graham, Elaine Stokes Thompson (David) of Burlington, and Wayne Stokes (Cheryl) of Ruskin, FL; special nephews, Scotti Thompson (Ashley) of Burlington, and Chris Stokes (Brittany) of Graham; great nephews, Grant Thompson of Burlington, and Dillen Stokes of Graham; and a great niece, Becklea Stokes of Graham. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Norman Fargis and Pastor Boyd Pickard officiating. There will be a private family committal service at the graveside. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
