Janice Weeks

Janice Little Weeks, 85, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, September 6.  Janice was born September 25, 1936, in Concord, NC to the late Claude Craven Little and Mary Jane Linker Little.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, David Bert Weeks.  Her brother Claude Craven Little, Jr., sister-in-law Pearl Crouch Little, sister Margaret Evelyn Little Goodman and brother-in-law William Dale Goodman also preceded her in death.

Janice leaves behind her three children, David Allen Weeks of Wake Forest, NC, Mary Dell Weeks Ratliff (Hank) of Fleetwood, NC and Elizabeth Weeks Brown (Dean) of Denver, NC; two grandchildren, Katherine Craven Brown and Carson James David Brown; nephews, Butch Little and Bill Cummings and nieces, Cindy Little Ritchie, Kathy Goodman Simpkins, Diane Cummings Walsh, Kim Cummings Wertz and their families.

Janice graduated from Winecoff High School in 1954 and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from WC-UNC in Greensboro.  After college she returned to Concord where she began her long teaching career.  She married Bert in 1959 and they settled in Winston-Salem in 1963.  Janice taught at several high schools in Winston-Salem and retired after teaching 34 years.  She loved her job and she touched many lives along the way.

She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators for more than 50 years.  She held various offices and served on committees in her chapter as well as at the state level. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Ardmore United Methodist Church was an integral part of her life.  She was a devoted member and served on various committees in the church for many years.  She was also active in the United Methodist Women.

Travelling was a hobby that she enjoyed doing with Bert.  She was proud that she had travelled to all 50 states and to many foreign countries. In her later years, her favorite place to vacation was Cherry Grove Beach.

Janice had many friends and was kind to everyone.  She was a special lady who will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Ardmore United Methodist Church on Friday, September 16 at 1:00pm, arranged by Hayworth Miller Funeral Home.  A private committal service will follow at 4:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem or Beta Chapter of NC Alpha Delta Kappa, Scholarship Fund.
