Janice Colleen Murphy Farmer, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday December 25, 2023. She was born December 6, 1931, to Minnie Banks Reece Murphy and Lloyd Stone Murphy in Davidson County.
She graduated from High Point High School and attended High Point University and Mars Hill College.
Janice’s mother was a piano teacher and a very talented musician. As a young child, her mother taught her and her sister, Peggy, to sing and they entertained at many High Point functions, not only singing, but also dancing.
Janice’s main ambition was to be a wife and a mother. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed every minute spent with them playing games, traveling, and entertaining them in her home.
As her children grew, she entered the workforce on a working mother’s program at Integon Corp. and remained there as administration assistant in Communications for 16 years.
Janice modeled for the Mother and Daughter Bridal Shows for many years and off and on for the Christian Womens Club and for Integon Corp. She loved to decorate and often shared her talent with friends.
Janice was an active member of College Park Baptist Church for 62 years where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir and the Grace Notes Senior Choir and for 10 years played in the handbell choir. She taught a youth Sunday School class, Vacation Bible School and participated in many, many other activities of the church.
Previously she was a member of Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church in High Point, NC where she played the organ and piano for some ten years. She and her beloved husband, Fred, who was also her childhood sweetheart were married in this church on November 26, 1955, and shared 54 years together.
Janice loved people and her friends were very dear to her. She cherished the friendship of the College Park members, the staff, and especially the Ruth Sunday School Class. Janice always tried to remain positive throughout life and looked to her Lord for strength and guidance.
Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Banks Reece Buchannan and her beloved husband, Fred. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: sons Scott (Laurie) Farmer of McLean VA, Curt (Alice) Farmer of Dallas, TX, and daughter Candi (Kenny) Clark of Charlotte NC; seven grandchildren Hunter and Christina Clark, Harrison and Carley Farmer and Katy, Allison (Alec) Heger, and Jack Farmer.
