Janet Snyder Wilson, age 86, died on August 22, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born October 22, 1937, in Forsyth County, to Francis Glenn Snyder and Mary Sides Snyder – both of whom preceded her in death in 2007 and 2004.
She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1956, and attended the Women’s College (UNC) in Greensboro, NC. In the late 1950’s, she began her working career in banking and worked for Wachovia Bank (Wells Fargo) and NCNB (Bank of America) for several years, and Georgia Railroad Bank in Augusta, GA, while her husband was in the Army. After leaving the banking world in 1973, she worked part-time for her father's company, Snyder Bakery Supply in Winston-Salem. In 1981, she returned to full-time work at Truliant Federal Credit Union and after 20 years of service, retired as Personnel Manager on March 1, 2001.
After her retirement, she spent several years helping care for her elderly parents. She always tried to help people in need and tried to remember those who were lonely with a call, card, or visit. Also, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends for many years. She loved her family, who meant everything to her. And always made sure she took time for them when needed. She was a long-time member of Pinedale Christian Church and a member of the Crusaders Sunday Scholl Class.
In June 1957, she married Paul Neal Wilson, Jr. who preceded her in death on May 2, 1997, and by a granddaughter, Amber Royall Peoples who died July 16, 2023. She is survived by a daughter, Paula Wilson Leonard (Ray Allen Hensley) of Germanton, NC, one granddaughter, Amanda Leonard (Michael Shepherd) of Mocksville, NC; three great-grandchildren, Elleanna Peoples, Jacob Peoples Jr., McKenzie Shepherd; one ex son-in-law, Mark Leonard (Michelle Thies). She is also survived by a brother, Donald Snyder and wife, Becky; a niece, two nephews and their families, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. Janet is also survived by her best friend and confidant, Jane Wall, who helped with her care and maintenance of the home.
The family would like to thank Jane Wall, Paul Crouse, Elizabeth and Scott Sullivan for their help in taking care of Mom. We don’t know what we would have done without all of you.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with Pastor Bill McKenzie officiating. After the service, the family will receive friends at the cemetery.
