Mrs. Janet Jones Banzhof, 87, of Clemmons, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born on May 16, 1928 in Rockingham County, NC. Married to William ""Bill"" Stanley Banzhof on August 27, 1961, in Winston-Salem, NC. Janet graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts at Woman's College (UNC-G) and a master's from Radcliffe. She began her career at Western Electric (AT&T) as a technical editor. After the birth of her children, she retired from Western to become a stay-at-home mom and a ""professional volunteer"". In her earlier years, Janet worked as a model in New York and Winston-Salem for Thalhimer's. She acted in, directed productions, and was a long-standing supporter of the Little Theatre in Winston-Salem, NC. She was co-founder, lead make-up artist, and on the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Opera Theatre in Winston-Salem, NC. As a young adult, Janet played violin for the Winston-Salem Symphony and later was a long-time volunteer and board member. Janet volunteered for ""The Nutcracker Ballet"" in many capacities, and was a long-term volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. She was an avid reader of many types of literature. She traveled extensively throughout Western Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In later years, she devoted her time to the Village of Clemmons' Historical Society as the President. Husband-Bill Banzhof. Children- Frank Stanley Banzhof (Daphne), Mark Stephen Banzhof, and Julia Banzhof Knight (Ernie). Grandchildren- Aaron Banzhof, Benjamin Jones, Matthew Jones, Abigail Banzhof, Kaelin Banzhof, Rachel Elizabeth Banzhof, Alex Banzhof, Petra Banzhof, and Benjamin Banzhof. Great grandchildren- Olive Banzhof and soon-to-be sister. Burmese cat- Tasha. A funeral service for Janet will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with friends and family officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
