Mr. James “Jimmy” Gray Foster, 99, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully Friday, August 12, 2022 at his home. He was born May 28, 1923 in Forsyth County to Thos Murphy Foster and Hattie Larrymore Foster. Mr. Foster was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army. While serving in the Philippines, he received the Asiatic-Pacific service medal with two bronze service stars, a Philippines liberation service medal with two bronze service stars, a good conduct medal and a World War II victory medal. He retired after 25 years as a certified combination welder from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. After retirement, he went on to teach welding at Forsyth technical Community College. Mr. Foster also spent many years as a carpenter and a brick mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Foster. Surviving are a daughter, Dianna Swaim (Lawrence); a son, Wayne Foster; two grandchildren, Jennifer Swaim and Karyn Knight (Mel); four great grandchildren, Dalton Knight, Foster Knight (Ashley), Tori and Jonathan Kilpatrick and special Friends, Marian Criner and Jim and Linda Sapp. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. Anyone wishing to see Mr. Foster and sign his register book, can come by Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022.
