James Gary Winters

James Gary Winters, 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

James was born on February 7, 1945, in Forsyth County to the late James Nerse Winters and Crystal Tucker Winters. He was raised by his mother and her second husband, Norman L. Moore. James worked in the trucking and manufacturing industry most of his life. He was employed with Exxon as a diesel mechanic for many years and retired from Bepco, Inc. as a department manager.

James loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, working in his garden and surf-fishing at the Outer Banks and Topsail Beach. He also had a huge heart for animals and loved the time spent taking care of his many animals over the years.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Lura Ann Winters; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Winters; son, Joseph Lee Winters; and brothers, Steve Winters and Michael Moore.

Surviving family includes his son, James Garfield Winters (Lynn) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Jessica Bicker (Neil) of New York, Sarah Winters of High Point, NC, Christina Winters of New York, Joshua Winters of Pennsylvania, and David Winters (Kayla) of Ohio; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ann Moore of Winston-Salem.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Parklawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Mark Reed officiating.
