Whitler Winston-Salem Mr.James Anglin Whitler, 80, died Thursday, January 26,2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years and his children. He was born January 12, 1932 in Danville, Virginia, the middle son of Richard Lafayette Whitler and Xonie Anglin Whitler. He graduated Boyden High School in Salisbury, N.C. and served in the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during the Korean War. Jim was employed for 38 years by Norfolk Southern Railway, and was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church. He loved his family, and spending time at his home in Beaufort, N.C. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Burke Whitler; son Jim Whitler, Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C., and daughters, Diane Gries and husband Rick, of Belmont, N.C., Alice Farmer and husband Curt, of Dallas, TX, Beth Buresh and husband Sheldon, of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Jason Whitler; Emily, Calista and Kaylea Gries; Katie, Allison and Jack Farmer; Stephanie Stewart and Whitler Buresh; sister-in-law Mary Whitler, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Lafayette Whitler, Jr. and William Robert Whitler. A private graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1:00pm at Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC. The family will greet friends immediately after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church.
