James Munson Watkins Jr.

Mr. James Munson Watkins Jr., 78, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born March 15, 1933 in Richmond, California the son of the late James Munson Watkins Sr. and Juanita ""Peggy"" Hilbun. Mr. Watkins joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. During his service in the Army he trained Airborne Infantryman during the Vietnam War and retired in 1970 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. After retirement from the Army he became a long-haul truck driver until his retirement in 2006. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Ivan Watkins, a granddaughter, Lisa Cole and his step-mother, Claudine Watkins.
Mr. Watkins is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Deloris Ann Watkins, his children, Arlen Georges and wife Patty of Rural Hall, Karen Cole and husband Roger of Lexington, Glenn Georges and wife Sandy of Rural Hall and Marvin Watkins and wife Kim of Hillsborough, four grandchildren, Andrew ""A.J."" Georges, Eric Georges, Katrina ""Kady"" Watkins and Emma Watkins, four sisters, Mary Ellen Grounds, Lorraine Wilkerson, Barbara Fletch and Judy Breault, two brothers, Clyde Maskel and Robert ""Bobbie"" Watkins and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Bob Lee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Hayworth-Miller Funeral in Rural Hall.
