James Scott Walls

James “Scott” Walls, 54, passed away at home on March 15, 2025, in Winston-Salem, NC.

Scott was born on July 20, 1970, in Charlotte, NC, to Terry Gilliam Walls and Ollie Ruth Walls. He attended West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, NC, and worked as a carpenter on construction sites. In later years, he worked as a self-employed carpenter.

Scott was a talented artist who designed patches, posters, and stickers for the Grateful Dead. He traveled cross-country four times, following the Grateful Dead and selling his artwork. He also created album covers for multiple bands.

He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. Scott had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed chess and spades, which he played daily.

Scott was preceded in death by his father; and aunt, Patricia McCuiston. He is survived by his mother; sister, Sandra Walls; brother, Craig Thomas Walls; aunts, Linda K. Gant and Lalah Pettitt; several cousins; special person in his life, Jill Cherry; and beloved dog, Bootsy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Scott’s honor.
