KERNERSVILLE-James Forrest Vernon, 74, passed away October 24, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 4, 1936, in Surry County, NC, to the late Buster Forrest and Isabel Ann Adkins Vernon. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Korea and 3 tours in Vietnam. He was a Mason of the 32nd Degree and a member of the Claybank Lodge #908 in Ozark, AL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Vernon. Surviving are his wife, Millie Vernon; daughter, Connie Vernon; sons, Jimmy (Diane) Vernon, Jeff (Sandra) Vernon and Michael Vernon; stepdaughter, Renee' Mier; stepson, Stacy (Sherrie) Mier; granddaughters, Ashlea Vernon Brooks, Allison Vernon, Kristy Vernon, and LeighAnn Canon; grandsons, Timmy Vernon, Jared Vernon, and Jordan Mier; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; brother, Tony Vernon of Kernersville, sister, Frankie (Aubrey) Bowlin of Stoneville; and beloved nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating.
