Mr. James Edward Tirrell, 67, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after his courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 8, 1945 in Greenville, S.C. to Arthur Fred Tirrell and Joyce Canfield Tirrell (Clark). He was raised in New Haven, Connecticut and lived several years in Milford, Connecticut, finally relocating to Winston-Salem in 1995. He was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Jim was a veteran of US Army National Guard from 1965-1972 and an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a dedicated IT professional with over 40 years service. He currently was with NTT Data formerly Keane, Inc. and had previously been affiliated with Connecticut National Bank, First Bank of New Haven, Caldor of Norwalk, Wake Forest University and Food Lion. His hobbies included woodworking, Sudoku puzzles, reading, and photography. Surviving are his wife, Diane Conti Tirrell; 5 children, Lisa Golias (Paul) of Lewisville, Charles Tirrell (Illa), James Tirrell all of New Haven, Conn., Katherine Tirrell and Joseph Tirrell both of Winston-Salem; 2 grandchildren, Andrew and Robert Golias; 3 sisters, Janice Tirrell, Sandra Keller and Arleen Beckwith; a brother, Tony Clark; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sam. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park with Military Rites by the VFW Memorial Honor.
