James Lester Tedder

TEDDER - RURAL HALL Mr. James Lester Tedder, 89, of Rural Hall, died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born March 2, 1922 in Stokes County, the son of the late Roy Bryant and Effie Ferguson Tedder. Mr. Tedder was retired from the Sales Field with R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with more than 30 years service. In 1963 he was selected as Salesman of the year. Mr. Tedder was a member of Jefferson Church of Christ where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the Board and was still serving as a Trustee of the church. He also served as Treasurer of the church for 18 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines from November 17, 1942 to January 14, 1946. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tedder was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey Guy Tedder, Sr. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Margaret Ellen Kiger Tedder of the home; two daughters, Beverly Tedder Essick of King and Debra Tedder Cate of Lawrenceville, GA; three grandchildren, Sara Essick Marks and husband, David of Bloomington, IN, Mark Thomas Essick and wife, Cindy of Flat Rock, MI, and Emily Cate Lubicz and husband, Paul of Buckhead, GA; six great-grandchildren, Curran Essick, Gage Essick, Aidan Essick, Elijah Marks, Madison Marks and Maggie Marks; one sister, Minnie Frances Boles and husband, Roscoe; one sister-in-law, Frances Tedder. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19 at Jefferson Church of Christ with Ministers Jerry Simpkins, Danny Spainhour and Mark Essick officiating. The body will be available for viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors presented by the American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Young at Heart Bus Fund c/o Jefferson Church of Christ, 8200 Jefferson Church Road, Rural Hall, NC 27045 or Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
