James "Jim" Swanson

Mr. James ""Jim"" Fredrick Swanson, 90, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on April 15, 1925 in Forsyth County, NC to the late Prince Fred Swanson and Bessie Sprouse Swanson. Jim served in The United States Army during World War II and was a D Day survivor. While serving his time in the Army, Mr. Swanson was a recipient of three Purple Hearts, along with the Bronze Star. After the military, he retired from Hunter Publishing Company with 28 years of service. Jim was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Olene Holcomb Swanson; and two sisters Hazel Angel and Frances Lentz. Jim is survived by two children, James F. Swanson Jr. and wife Beckie of Winston-Salem NC, and Linda Swanson Johnson and husband Joe of Statesville NC; five Grandchildren, Kim Cummings, Jeff Henderson and wife Wendy, Natalie Tamer and husband Jeremy, Jake Swanson, Matt Swanson; four great grandchildren Colt and Nora Tamer and Carma and Justice Cummings; and two sisters, Betty Logan of Winston-Salem, and JoAnn Easter of Pfafftown. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norman E. Jones, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday February 25, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Senior Services 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
