James DeWitt Stanley, Jr.

Mr. James DeWitt Stanley, Jr., 80, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 27, 1932 in Surry County to James DeWitt Stanley, Sr. and Emmie Crabb Stanley. After 37 years of service with AT&T, J.D. enjoyed car shows, woodworking, golfing, having breakfast with his buddies, and prided himself on his green lawn. In particular, he treasured his time with his family, children and grandchildren who held a very special place in his heart. He loved to make you smile with a joke and had a contagious smile himself. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious wife, Evelyn Stanley; and sisters, Joyce Snow, Marie Wright, and Kathy Wooten. Surviving are three children, Carolyn Ann Yokley and husband Tom, their children, Brock Phillips and wife Charlotte, and Selena Yokley; Chris Stanley and wife Linda, their children, Nicole and Lindsay; Melissa Pennell and husband Jeff, their children, Dillon, Zack, and Nick-Tanner; one brother, Mike Stanley and wife Charlotte; two sisters, Jet Eads and husband Jerry; Betty Jo Barbour and husband Doug; and a very dear friend, Betty Jean Flinchum. A graveside service in honor of his request will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6 at Parklawn Memorial Park with the Rev. James Dockery officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial Dept., 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
