Mr. James ""Jim"" Lewis Spaugh, 74, of Midway passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Clare Bridge Retirement Community. Mr. Spaugh was born in Forsyth County on August 23, 1936 to Walter and Ethel Brewer Spaugh. He was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church, where he was a member of the Covenant Sunday School class and Senior Friends. Mr. Spaugh grew up in the Methodist Children's Home and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1954. Mr. Spaugh was a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid sports fan, and in his spare time, he coached little league baseball, where he made many fond memories. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a Claims Analyst and later worked at Maple Leaf Golf Course, where his love of sports continued. Mr. Spaugh was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Herbert B. Spaugh; and a sister, Etta Mae Kimel. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dale Fogleman Spaugh; a daughter, Susan Spaugh Thomason and husband Chip of Durham; a son James Spaugh, Jr. and wife Amy of Hertford; six grandchildren, Natalie, Kendall, Nicole, Kaleb, Katherine, and Jennifer; a brother, Arthur Spaugh of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mary Foltz, Betty Evans and husband Earl, and Martha Ann Isley, all of Winston-Salem; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Fogleman of Durham, NC. A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Friedberg Moravian Church with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friedberg Moravian Church, 2178 Friedberg Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 225 Davie Avenue, Statesville, NC 28625.
