Walkertown- Mr. James Irving Smith age 68 loving husband and father passed away Saturday October 30, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1942 in Forsyth County to Milton Eugene and Lorene Walker Smith. James proudly served in the US Navy aboard the destroyer USS Basilone DD-824 in Vietnam. Mr. Smith retired from the City of Winston-Salem Parks and Recreations Department and loved to work on antique cars. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Billy Ray Smith Surviving , his wife Wanda G. Bennett Smith of the home, three sons, Joshua Smith of the home, Wilson Smith and wife Faith of Bridgewater, MA., James Irving Smith Jr. and wife Kimberly of Fall River, MA., one daughter, Margaret Smith of Swansea, Ma., two stepchildren Lance Willard of Cana, Va. And Ashia Willard of Elizabeth, In., one brother Milton Eugene Smith Jr. of Bethania and one sister Shirley Wilson of Summerfield, one nephew Blake Wilson and wife Robin, ten grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday November 3, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel . The family will receive friends 7-9PM Tuesday November 2, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
