James Ivan Sinclair of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully at home Sunday, March 27, 2016, after an extended illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC, the son of the late Henry Duncan and Classie Overby Sinclair and grew up in Walkertown, NC. He lettered in football at Walkertown High School, served in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co, retiring after 30 years. He was co-owner and framer of Sinclair Art Gallery. Ivan Sinclair is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marlene Kiger Sinclair, of the home, his son James (Jay) Ivan Sinclair, Jr. of Winston-Salem, daughter Gina Sinclair Bess (Terry) of Clemmons, grandson Noah Sinclair Bess, who was so dear to his heart, step-granddaughter Lindley Sheldon Bess, sister Frances Sinclair Bowles, brother Joseph Clifton Sinclair and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parakeet Blue and Cocker Spaniel Bebe and his granddogs, Eddie, Precious and Katie. Ivan was a faithful Christian, attending New Friendship Baptist Church for many years. He touched everyone he met with his kindness, generosity and his ever-present happy smile. He loved laughing, talking to friends and strangers alike, westerns, naps, fishing, gardening, traveling and food (especially steak). He often said ""If God created anything better than a ribeye, he kept it for himself.""
The family would like to thank the following for their care and kindness during his illness: the healthcare workers of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center (especially the ICCU staff), Whitaker Rehab Center, loving neighbors, the Hunnicutts, the Caudils and the Lopezes, special friends Charlie and Treva Hutchens, Sister-in-law Betty Sheek, Pastor Chris Byrne and the exercise staff and friends at the Wellness Center. The family would also like to thank the staff at Hospice of Winston-Salem. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 12pm at Hayworth-Miller on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem. Funeral service will be at 1pm in the Hayworth-Miller chapel led by Pastors Bobby Roberson (Gospel Light Baptist Church) and Gary Byrum (Calvary Baptist Church), followed by graveside service for the family at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
