James Aaron Poplin

James Aaron Poplin, 80 of Pfafftown, passed away at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice & Palliative Care Center on Thursday, August 13, 2009. He was surrounded by his loving family and pastor. He was born in Wilkes County, March 5, 1929 to James Silas Poplin and Laura Mae Reeves Poplin. He was a devoted member of Pfafftown Christian Church, served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and retired from Pilot Freight Carriers. After retirement, he enjoyed working for Habitat for Humanity, hiking and biking with his retired friends, and helping restore antique cars. He loved his family, friends, and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl Poplin. Aaron is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Josephine ""Jo"" Gentry Poplin; a son Gary Poplin (Carolyn) of East Bend; daughter Beth Petree (Jerry) of Winston-Salem; and grandchildren Bryan Poplin and Crystal Petree. Also surviving are his sisters Edna Money and Nancy Steelman (Bill) of Ronda; brother Davis Poplin of Winston-Salem; and a sister-in-law Lois Poplin of Ronda; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Aaron's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, August 17, 2009 at Pfafftown Christian Church with the Rev. Bob Parvin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pfafftown Christian Church, 3323 Transou Road, Pfafftown, NC 27040 or to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
