James Fulton Parsons

Yadkinville- Mr. James ""Jim"" Fulton Parsons, 87, passed away November 8, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1924 in West Jefferson to the late Hagey (Heg) and Vena Miller Parsons. Mr. Parsons was considered as the patriarch of the family and being known to all as a true southern gentleman. He will always be remembered for his generosity and the love for his family and country. His hobbies included fishing at the Outer Banks, crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and cooking. He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan, Atlanta Braves fan, and a Carolina Panthers fan. Mr. Parsons was a charter member of the Yadkin Civitan Club and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Yadkinville Lions Club. He was a dedicated supporter of Obids Baptist Church his entire life. In 1941 he graduated from West Jefferson High School and subsequently obtained an associate's degree from Jones Business College in High Point in 1942. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Mr. Parsons began his career in 1946 as General accounting Clerk with Western Electric and retired in 1976 as Auditing Manager in the Comptroller's Group Finance Division headquartered in New York, NY. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert, Howard, Jones, and Irvin Parsons and four sisters, Vivian Ashe, Violet Wallace, Ruth Parsons, and Inez Severt. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Ella G. Parsons; 21 nieces and nephews, along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, November 11, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Jonathan Bolin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A funeral service will be held in West Jefferson at Obids Baptist Church, Friday at 3:00pm with Minister Tom Graybeal and Jonathan Bolin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, 717 Oak St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or The Salvation Army, PO Box 1205, Winston-Salem, NC 27102 or Obids Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Raymond Bare, 1325 Old Obids Rd., West Jefferson, NC 28694. The family will gather at other times at the home of Cindy Booe, 1428 Crater Lane, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mallard Ridge Assisted Living and staff with a special Thank you to Jessica, Almaroof, Krystal, James, and Paul. Also, a sincere thank you to the Palliative Care unit at Forsyth Medical Center for the special care in Jim's final days.
