James 'Jack' Brandon Owen

OWEN Mr. James Brandon ""Jack"" Owen, 93, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation. He was born December 28, 1918 in Forsyth County to Thomas David and Bertha Mae Smith Owen. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Greyhound Corporation after 36 years of service. Mr. Owen was preceded in death by his first wife, Emery Reitzel Owen in 1975, his second wife, Bernice Carter, a grandson, David Marshall and a step daughter, Vivian Brann. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy O. Marshall, Jackie Lynn Kiger and husband, Dale; a son, J.D. Owen, wife, Linda and Harley Jo; five grandchildren, Brigette Wall and husband, Ed, Dan Owen and wife, Debbie, Josh Owen, Amy K. Crotts and husband, Marc, Linda Martin and husband, J.T. and their son Chris. Eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Ken Harris officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Cemetery with military rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. Jack served his country as a proud U.S. Marine during WWII and saw duty in Okinawa, Japan. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, W-S, N.C. 27103.
