James Pierpont Morgan, Sr.

Mr. James Pierpont Morgan, Sr. 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011. He was born September 29, 1918 in Forsyth County to Ellie Helpler Morgan and Columbus Lee Morgan the first of six children. Mr. Morgan was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Morgan was a charter member of Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church. In 1939 he married his true love, Charlotte McGee. She preceded him in death in 1977. Also preceding him in death are one brother, C. Lee Morgan, Jr. and two sisters, Geneva M. Sykes and Bertha M. Lowe. Surviving J.P. are his two children, Jane M. George of Reedy Creek and J.P. Morgan, Jr. (Texalee) of Mullins, SC; four grandchildren, Sheri George Higgins (Jeff) of Yadkinville, Lynda George Perrell (Garth) of Reedy Creek, J.P. Morgan, III of Winston-Salem and Gina Morgan Kerr (Will) of Suffolk, VA; one brother, Jack W. Morgan of Wilmington, NC; one sister, Vivian M. McDowell of Jacksonville, FL; seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and one on the way. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Morgan had many many friends at K & W where he frequently ate lunch and dinner. He was a musician who loved his trumpet playing at several circuses as a young boy. Mr. Morgan played for Dwight D. Eisenhour's parade and Inaugural Ball. He played for 60 years at the Sunrise Service at Home Moravian Church. He also played in the Sawtooth Band, the Winston-Salem Symphony, various bands, The Little Theatre and his beloved Konnoak Hills Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek with Rev. Dr. Robert Wiseman officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
