James Donald 'Don' Moore

Mr. James Donald Moore, 90, of Bermuda Run, passed away January 23, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 25, 1923 in Dallas, TX to James Cowan and Elizabeth Sears Moore. Mr. Moore attended Winnetka Elementary School and graduated from Sunset High School in 1941 in Dallas. He also graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1945 with degrees of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. He was elected a member of the Blue Key honorary organization and served as president of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order. Don was active in scouting from the age of 12, achieving an Eagle Scout rank in Troop 6 and was selected a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a Sea Scout. His engineering background and steadfast conscientiousness charted his course in the oil industry where he began as a mud engineer. He retired as a senior executive in 1978 after a 33 year career. Mr. Moore's favorite pastime was sailing his Bermuda 40 sailboat. He also enjoyed playing golf. Don tirelessly contributed his time and efforts to many community organizations, most notably, volunteering as the Chief of the First Responders in Savannah, GA. He also contributed much of his time as an officer for numerous church organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Henry Moore; two daughters, Rebecca Stringer and Elizabeth McKee; four grandchildren, Andrew Stringer and Emmy Stringer Grimes, and Trevor and Sterling McKee; and a great grandchild, Landon Grimes. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in the living room of Bermuda Village.
